6 Ways A Professional Headshot Can Change Your Business

A photo of yourself, your team and others involved with your business can do wonders for your brand. Not only will it affect your customers' perception of your business, it also creates trust and identity. If you have a website with some old photos of yourself, it may be time to scrap those selfies and replace them with a professional headshot! They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so what can your headshot be saying about your business? Here are 6 things a professional headshot can do for your business.

1 - It gives a great first impression to your customers

When we meet someone for the first time, typically we try to make a good impression on that person, especially if we want to do business with them. Everytime someone visits your website, goes on your social media, or views your advertisements, you are trying to make a great impression and oftentimes it may be that customer's first impression. A good way to make sure that customer experience leaves a good impression is to have a professional photo of yourself to display!

2 - It helps put a face to the name of the business

How many businesses do you know that have someone's first or last name as the name of the business? I can name quite a bit just in my hometown and yet I have no idea who they are or what that person looks like. Having a photo of yourself can help customers connect who you are (and your employees) and the business. Not only that, there is a sense of trust established when you put a face behind the business, but how you display yourself determines the level of trust! Additionally, if your current photo is from 15 years ago it may be a good idea to update it to keep that trust and face of the business current.

3 - A professional photo shows how invested you are in your business

Imagine hiring a plumber with no tools of his own or a lawyer without a suit. Neither things are a reflection of their talent or skills, but it does show how invested they are in their business. A good plumber will have invested in the necessary tools to do multiple jobs and a lawyer will more than likely have invested in several suits for court appearances. Your digital imprint shows how much you have invested into your business as well. Compared to your competitors, you have gone above and beyond to show your professionalism. Your website should look professional along with your images, especially photos of yourself. Investing in a headshot or portrait yourself can show customers that you are serious and invested in your business!

4 - A headshot is useful across a range of media

A good headshot or portrait isn’t just for your LinkedIn profile. It is useful in many different mediums, both print and digital! You can put a headshot on your website landing page or your about me/us page. Also, when you print marketing materials, like business cards or pamphlets, your photo can be put on those too! Are you creating a billboard ad or newspaper? Make sure you have a professional photo to put your best foot forward.

5 - Professional headshots presents confidence to your customers

An example of my old LinkedIn headshot (left) versus my current headshot. The one on the left seems more like a vacation photo while the one on the right is more professional.

This is a two for one here. A good professional headshot or portrait can help portray you as a confident individual. This is a great characteristic to show your customers. Additionally, it can instill customers confidence in you and your company. By showing there are real humans and teams behind your product or service will help convert visitors into customers!

6 - Among many things, a headshot establishes good branding

A brand is more than just a label on your product or new logo. Good branding involves everything from the storefront aesthetics, web design, uniforms (or lack thereof), color schemes, mottos, imagery/visuals, and so much more. When it comes to branding, consistency is key. If you pay to have a state of the art website, but your store is dilapidated it sends mixed messages. So if you’ve invested in other parts of your business but have neglected visuals, specifically headshots or portraits, it may be time to start looking for a photographer to take some today!
